At present, the Palouse Divide Nordic Ski Area is funded through the Idaho Parks and Recreation Park ‘N Ski Pass system and through club membership fees. Under the Park-n-ski pass arrangement, vehicles that park at the trailhead must display a $25 annual pass, or a $7.50 daily pass. Both of these passes are available at a variety of retail outlets in the area, including Hyperspud Sports in Moscow. A portion of the funds collected from the passes is deposited into an account that can be used to cover grooming expenses.
At present, we have at least one volunteer, Pete Minard who grooms the main trails on an irregular basis – depending on snow conditions. Lane Hathaway, who owns the Palouse Divide Lodge situated just above the trailhead, has a fleet of cross country grooming equipment (some of which belongs to the National Forest Service) that our club volunteers use to groom the trail system.
Given that the trail system is presently groomed by volunteers on an
irregular basis, our current fee system is inadequate to ensure that the trail system is groomed regularly and to a high level of quality. One of the key action items of the Palouse Divide Nordic Ski Club will be to explore fee systems and funding options that will ensure that the trails are groomed regularly, reliably, and for both the classic and skating techniques.
You can help by paying your annual membership dues to the Palouse Divide Nordic ski club. These fees cover the fall/winter/spring ski season. Proceeds are used to pay for grooming expenses, snow plowing, and the port-a-potty rental at the trailhead. Please join. Fees are $25. per season for a family or $15. for an individual.
